Journal
- Concern is writ plain on Ruvoll Ja's face.
- ※The difficulty of this quest will be synced to your current level.
- The gainery's growth has garnered the interest of local beasts, which have proven themselves a nuisance by attacking farmers and trampling crops. Ruvoll Ja has already petitioned a repellent from Gotoll Ja, who should be finishing it even as you speak.
- ※Please note that the difficulty of this quest has been synced to your current level. Furthermore, you may not proceed with a class or job that is different from when you accepted this quest.
- Gotoll Ja has fashioned smoke traps to repel unwanted fauna, but emphasizes that they are only a temporary measure. The ideal solution, he says, is an active patrol, but Mamook's farmers are already working at full capacity. Ruvoll Ja reasons that their best recourse is to travel to Tuliyollal and recruit fellow expatriates.
- You find Ruvoll Ja deep in conversation with a Xbr'aal and mutual friend of bodyguard Mireel Ja. It is the latter from whom Ruvoll Ja would ask assistance, so you both venture forth to Downripple to meet him.
- Mireel Ja is more than suited to the work of guard duty, but he balks at the idea of returning to a dark forest where there is naught to eat but najool. After helping Ruvoll Ja explain the whole situation, however, the Hoobigo is persuaded to take a look at the changing landscape of his former home.
- After expressing wonder at the gainery, Mireel Ja immediately identifies its meager fences as a problem. He instructs you as to what materials would help fortify Gok Golma's defenses, and you head out into the forest to do what you do best.
- Protected by a stronger wall and the watchful eyes of new patrols, Gok Golma is safer and more prosperous than ever. Different crops now flourish together, bringing a heretofore-unknown diversity to Mamook's diet. And yet you can feel even greater potential awaiting this gainery─with enough time and care, who knows to what heights it may reach?
Dialogue
Gok Golma
Ruvoll Ja: The branchbearers have settled in nicely. Those pesky bugs are gone and our next harvest is well on its way.
Ruvoll Ja: Only, local beasts have been encroaching upon Gok Golma recently, threatening our workers and trampling our crops.
Ruvoll Ja: We've taken immediate action, of course. I asked Gotoll Ja if he could develop some kind of repellent, like the two of you once did for wild wivres.
Ruvoll Ja: I was just about to go and pick up the prototype. Since you're here, why don't you come along?
Mamook
Catching up with Ruvoll Ja
Ruvoll Ja: Gotoll Ja has been of incredible help. Not only does he manufacture our gardening equipment, he even fashions research tools for Anggir.
Speaking to Gotoll Ja
Gotoll Ja: [Forename]! Now this is a pleasant surprise. You look well.
Gotoll Ja: I reworked the old smoke bombs into traps that issue smoke for an extended period, allowing ample time for our farmers to flee if necessary.
Gotoll Ja: But these are only a stopgap. Able-bodied fighters patrolling the area would do a far better job for security, if you ask me.
Ruvoll Ja: That may be so, but we can't spare any of our workers... We may have to try recruiting Mamool Ja who moved to Tuliyollal, like me.
Ruvoll Ja: Since you've got a knack for convincing people, I'd like you to join me. My first stop will be Exultation, so stop by when you have a moment!
Following up with Gotoll Ja
Gotoll Ja: Off he goes... He's always been earnest, that one. It's just a matter of conveying his thoughts coherently to others...
Tuliyollal, Exultation
Chatting with Convivial Civilian
Convivial Civilian: I'm relieved to see you hale and whole! When you said you were returning to Mamook, I didn't know what to think...
Speaking with Ruvoll Ja
Ruvoll Ja: Ah, you're here! I was just catching up with an old friend.
Ruvoll Ja: In fact, he was kind enough to direct me to Mireel Ja, a fellow expatriate from Mamook.
Ruvoll Ja: Normally Mireel Ja works as a bodyguard, but as luck would have it, he's relaxing by Downripple tonight. Let's go and find him.
Following up with Convivial Civilian
Convivial Civilian: Mireel Ja should be somewhere near Downripple. Take care of Ruvoll Ja, won't you?
Tuliyollal, Downripple
Chatting with Ruvoll Ja
Ruvoll Ja: This is Mireel Ja, one of the finest fighters I know. I hope he'll hear us out.
Speaking with Mireel Ja
Mireel Ja: Well, well, aren't I popular today.
Mireel Ja: Wait, I know you! You're the Dawnservant's right-hand [man]!
Ruvoll Ja: Even you, Mireel Ja? I had no idea [Forename] was such a celebrity.
Mireel Ja: Celebrity doesn't begun to describe it—at least, not among us mercenary types. To become a fighter like [Forename] [Surname], recognized by the Vow of Resolve herself, is a dream for no few of us.
Mireel Ja: So, to what do I owe this honor? Ruvoll Ja, I thought you'd gone back to Mamook.
Ruvoll Ja: I have—and I want you to return with me.
Mireel Ja: Don't take this the wrong way, but even if Mamook has changed, I still prefer the freedom of Tuliyollal to that dismal forest.
Mireel Ja: Besides which, you can eat here. Truly eat! Najool just doesn't compare to what the city can offer.
Ruvoll Ja: But that's the whole point! We have more vegetables than ever, and we're still planning to add more!
Mireel Ja: ...We're talking about Mamook, yes?
Ruvoll Ja: Aren't we?
What will you say? > Maybe start at the beginning, Ruvoll Ja. > Did you mention the gainery?
Ruvoll Ja: Oh! That's right, he doesn't know yet! Let me explain...
Mireel Ja: Well, color me impressed. A Mamook that not only grows something other than najool, but works with outsiders to do so.
Ruvoll Ja: Exactly! We need to protect what we've worked so hard to build. Won't you help us?
Mireel Ja: Fine. Since you're this invested, I'll go and give it a look. But if I'm forced to eat even a single najool, I'm out of there...
Ruvoll Ja: Haha, fair enough! Gok Golma is a sight to behold, though—you won't regret this!
Gok Golma
Chatting with Anggir
Anggir: I just had the honor of meeting Mireel Ja. Having an ally of his stature is reassuring indeed.
Chatting with Ruvoll Ja
Ruvoll Ja: Some of our crops are still young, but to have this much variety thriving so vigorously... It's a wellspring of hope.
Speaking with Mireel Ja
Mireel Ja: By the gods... There isn't a najool in sight!
Mireel Ja: Now I understand your excitement. This is an unprecedented achievement for Mamook.
Ruvoll Ja: Isn't it? We need to shore up our defenses, and that's where you come in. What do your eyes see that mine don't?
Mireel Ja: Hmm... A weak fence, for starters. You have supplies and tools to reinforce them, I hope?
Ruvoll Ja: The tools I'll take care of, and [Forename] is as good a gatherer as you'll find. Any supplies we need, [he]'ll procure!
Mireel Ja:
- (for Miner) Then I'd have you bring us soft limestone for the new barriers. You should be able to find some around Ankledeep.
- (for Botanist) Then I'd have you bring us supple ivy for the new barriers. You should be able to find some around Ankledeep.
- (for Fisher) Then I'd have you bring us an anklefish. Its bones are sturdy and good for making barriers.
Mireel Ja:
- (for Fisher) You should be able to fish them from Ankledeep using golden stonefly nymphs.
Ruvoll Ja: We'll apprise Anggir of our plan. Once you have the supplies, you can deliver them directly to her. We're counting on you!
Turning in to Anggir
Anggir: Welcome back. I understand we're reinforcing our fences.
Anggir: Lovely, I believe this is precisely what Ruvoll Ja described. I hope a sturdy wall will solve our problems...
Anggir: I'm surprised by how many of Mireel Ja's associates hearkened to his call. Thanks to their patrols, our gainery feels safer than ever.
Anggir: Beasts should no longer trouble us, and come harvest time, we should have more than enough people to lend a hand.
Anggir: I'll admit, the glow of our yield surprised me at first, but closer inspection revealed that these plants mirror najool in their reaction to the aetheric environment. Their appearance has no negative effect on nutrients nor palatability.
