Volusus bas Malicus may not have been born to a prestigious Garlean family, but he was privileged enough to receive an education at an imperial primary school, as his parents both had respectable jobs. His mother worked long shifts at Palatium Novum as a lady-in-waiting, while his father spent nearly half of every year on Juturna Platform G. Possessed of a stubborn streak, the boy is loath to open his heart to others, though such behavior is hardly uncommon for children struggling with loneliness.
As his mother and father were rarely at home, Volusus often ate suppers by himself, and came to treasure the precious few occasions when the family dined together. Though separated from his parents in the civil war, he was miraculously discovered and returned to them, thanks to the efforts of Galla oen Longus and a kindly adventurer. He has seen and lost far too much for a boy of thirteen winters, but is grateful that both his mother and father are alive and well.
