“"Stone walls do not a nation make. Her people do. And as long as we yet live, we can rebuild."
Born to his mother Mina shortly after Doma fell to Garlemald, Hien knew nothing of life before the occupation. Though he was subjected to the official imperial curriculum, he was also permitted to study Doman arts and culture, and from this diverse education, he developed an appreciation for both traditional values and modern philosophies. Until his mother passed away following an illness some fifteen years ago, little "Shun" enjoyed a relatively happy life with his father's retainer, Gosetsu. Following her death, he devoted himself to the pursuit of Doma's liberation and reconstruction. That said, the young lord still finds time to sup on raw meat and enjoy spirits with his comrades, who never fail to enjoy his good company. The young heir to the throne of Doma, Hien is a charismatic leader beloved of his people. Lord Hien Rijin, also known by his childhood name Shun, is the heir to the throne of Doma. His late father, Lord Kaien, was struck down by Zenos yae Galvus during a rebellion against the occupying Garleans. This rebellion ended in failure and left Hien successor to a throne that he could no longer claim. As he was a major influential force in this failed uprising, he felt wholly responsible for the death of many of his countrymen and vanished, leaving his retainers Gosetsu and Yugiri clueless as to his whereabouts.
Hien plays a major role in the story of Final Fantasy XIVs second expansion, Stormblood.

Gameplay
Hien is available as a Duty Support NPC in three Stormblood dungeons: Bardam's Mettle, The Burn, and The Ghimlyt Dark. His job is a samurai and similar to Gosetsu, he can either act as a DPS or tank. Hien is only available as a DPS in Bardam's Mettle and only as a tank in the Burn and the Ghimlyt Dark.
In A Requiem for Heroes, the player controls Hien during the first stage of the quest battle against Zenos yae Galvus's body possessed by Elidibus.
In addition, Hien can use the Meikai Kyokyo action:
“Derived from weapon-crushing techniques developed by a foreign nation's demon slayers, Meikai Kyokyo was perfected by Lord Hien's forebears and taught to him by his loyal retainer Gosetsu. The wielder infuses their weapon with Kenki and transforms it into an imposing blade of light, with which they may strike foes to unleash a series of explosive Kenki bursts.
