Lore
"As of now, our mighty moon has a new purpose! To bear the people of Etheirys to safety!"
As the self-proclaimed "right paw" of Hydaelyn, Livingway chose her name to remind her of her purpose: to ensure that the people of Etheirys would endure and, preferably, thrive. She is quite confident in her abilities as supervisor to the Loporrits, but has yet to master effective communication with the peoples of Etheirys, which has resulted in the occasional misinterpretation of their wants and needs. To address this and other issues, Urianger pledged his assistance to the long-eared custodians of the moon, and Livingway has since grown rather fond of the verbose Scion.
— Encyclopaedia Eorzea Volume III, p. 182
A rabbit-like people inhabiting the moon, the Loporrits are said to have been created by Hydaelyn Herself for the purpose of preparing for mankind's flight during the Final Days. Livingway is the individual responsible for directing the Loporrits' millennia-long efforts, and the self-proclaimed “right paw” of Hydaelyn. Loporrit history is inextricably tied to the satellite upon which they reside. In the ancients' bid to avert the catastrophe of the Final Days, they summoned Zodiark, the first primal, to rewrite the star's laws and strengthen its weakened celestial currents. Venat and her followers had a different vision for the future, yet even they understood that Etheirys would not survive were Zodiark to be destroyed. Thus did they seek to seal Him away, beyond mankind's reach, bringing into being the entity Hydaelyn, who in turn created the moon to be His prison.
The watcher, the overseer of Zodiark's imprisonment, spoke of Hydaelyn not as an omnipotent being, but as one ever forced to consider desperate measures to avert calamity. As such, She had fashioned the moon with another purpose in mind: should Zodiark cease to exist, the satellite would also serve as an ark to bear the people of Etheirys to the safety of a distant star.
Despite Her precautionary measures, however, there was at first naught on the moon save Zodiark Himself. It fell to the Loporrits, whose creation coincided with that of the celestial vessel, to toil for untold centuries in preparation for a journey that would hopefully never come to pass. Building upon the research of Venat's faction into the world's hidden workings, they began the manufacture of the hyperhopper and other such mechanisms required for cosmic navigation. Even more challenging were the arrangements for bringing people to the moon itself. Producing a breathable atmosphere for the star's refugees was but the first of many tasks ahead.
The Loporrits established environmental foundations, then entered dormancy until said elements stabilized, a cycle they would repeat over and over until the moon became a habitable vessel. They also received knowledge of the present age from collaborators on the star's surface─members of Sharlayan's Forum who had heard Hydaelyn's voice. Their compendium on Etheirys's people, complete with blank pages for updates, remains one of Livingway's most treasured possessions.
When Zodiark was at last returned to aether, the moon's role was shifted wholly from prison to transportation. As matters would have it, however, the Scions' preliminary visit exposed several glaring problems with the Loporrits' preparations. Having been tailored to the ancients' towering statures, the amenities were far too large, and the clothing, foodstuffs, and dwellings upon which they had worked so hard received unexpectedly lukewarm appraisals. So it was that a trembling Livingway and her compatriots turned to Urianger as a potential co-conspirator, requesting that he carry word of a perfect lunar paradise to those below. Untrue or not, the people of Etheirys had to be convinced to evacuate the star posthaste, lest the Final Days claim countless lives.
For all else aside, the Loporrits harbored a profound love for mankind. While Hydaelyn had indeed imbued them with a great fondness for the creatures of Etheirys, they had also spent countless years gazing up at that blue orb, working eagerly towards the day they would finally welcome its inhabitants in person.
In the end, the moon never fulfilled its purpose as a starship. Etheirys's people chose to resist the coming of the Final Days, and it was the Ragnarok which became home to the satellite's hyperhopper and other technological marvels.
Now that the existential threat is no more, Livingway and her fellows must search for new meaning to their lives—but the joy they find in helping people remains unchanged. Livingway is tireless in her own personal quest, dreaming of the day she is lauded as mankind's staunchest ally, and the greatest Loporrit to ever live!
