“Centuries ago, during a famine brought on by a prolonged drought, a farmer came to entreat the lord of Doma that he might help his people, but was turned away at the castle gates. Undeterred, he sat upon the bridge, unmoving, until the king ventured outside on official business. As he passed, the farmer caught hold of his coattails—a brazen act punishable by death. However, the king was moved by the man's heartfelt pleas, and not only spared his life, but opened the castle's stores of rice to feed the starving smallfolk. In that farmer's honor, the bridge was given its name to remind others to be brave and not fear reprisal if they believe their cause is just.
