An occasion to mark the completion of the Firmament's restoration, the Skyrise Celebration was originally conceived as a fête to be administrated by the artisans and residents who toiled to rebuild Ishgard. However, with project leader Francel de Haillenarte's support, the event gained state sponsorship.

The restoration of the Firmament not only provided shelter for those who had been left homeless by the interminable conflict that was the Dragonsong War, but also served as a catalyst for new developments in industry and tourism—the latter having long been neglected in favor of isolation. The Skyrise Celebration proved successful in this regard, and discussions regarding potential benefits of holding the event on a recurring basis are ongoing.
