[[Jalzahn]] will then explain the task of building your [[Novus Zodiac Weapon]] using your [[Sphere Scroll]]. Unlike all other weapon or equipment in [[Eorzea]] you have the freedom to customs the secondary stats of your [[Novus Zodiac Weapon]] as you like. You need to successfully bind a total of 75 [[materia]] to complete your [[Sphere Scroll]] in order to create your weapon. Each [[materia]] requires a special reagent called [[Alexandrite]]. After speaking to [[Jalzahn]], the quest will move to your "completed quest log". Once you have completed your scroll, return to [[Jalzahn]] who will finalise and create your new [[Novus Zodiac Weapon]].

==Novus Zodiac Weapons Stat Caps==
With the exception of [[Paladin]]'s [[Curtana Novus]] and [[Holy Shield Novus]], each weapon can have a maximum of 75 secondary stat points added. The maximum for the [[Curtana Novus]] is 50 points and the [[Holy Shield Novus]] is 25 points. The weapons 5 main stats ([[Vitality]], [[Strength]], [[Dexterity]], [[Intelligence]] and [[Mind]]) upgrade automatically. The [[Omnilex Novus]] and [[Thyrus Novus]] will receive a base +9 [[accuracy]] automatically. Each secondary stat has it's own cap which varies between stat and weapon / class. The table are the caps for each weapon with the level and number of [[materia]]s required below the cap.

The upgrade is comprised of 12 Mahatmas of the original Atmas. To upgrade your weapon, you must awaken the Soul of your weapon through a method similar to [[Nexus_Zodiac_Weapons/Quest#Upgrading Novus to Nexus|Novus light farming]]. You need 40 points to awaken each Mahatmas. You can obtain points from [[dungeons]] and [[trials]]. Progress can be viewed from the Zodiac Glass. The upgrade is comprised of 12 Mahatmas of the original Atmas. To upgrade your weapon, you must awaken the Soul of your weapon through a method similar to [[Nexus_Zodiac_Weapons/Quest#Upgrading Novus to Nexus|Novus light farming]]. You need 40 points to awaken each Mahatmas. You can obtain points from [[dungeons]] and [[trials]]. Progress can be viewed from the Zodiac Glass. You will also be notified when ascension is complete in the chat log.
*Note that Mahatma's bonus window is the same as Novus bonus window.
After finishing a Mahatma, you can get the next one from [[Remon]] in [[Swiftperch]] for 50 [[Allagan Tomestone of Poetics]]. You need to complete all 12, in order, to upgrade your weapon. They are ordered as follows:

Companions are pets that will fight alongside you. Players will not only be able to rank up his or her Chocobo companion but also customize their looks and abilities. Players can specialize their personal Chocobos into tanks, healers or damage dealers by allocating their skill points into the Defender, Attacker or Healer skill trees. Players can customize their chocobo with various [[Chocobo Barding|bardings]]. The bardings are only cosmetic, they give no bonus stats or other benefits.

*Chocobo minions cannot be used in instanced [[duties]] such as [[dungeons]]

==Obtaining Chocobo Companion==
Chocobo Companions are unlocked after the completion of [[My Feisty Little Chocobo]] quest at level 30 or higher. The quest starting NPC is Docette, located in [[Camp Tranquil]] in [[South Shroud]] (x17,y28).

*You must have acquired your [[Chocobo#Chocobo Mount|Chocobo Mount]] before you can start this quest.

==Summoning Chocobo Companion==
You will need to use a [[Gysahl Greens]] to summon your Chocobo. When summoned, Chocobo acts as a member of your party and remains summoned for a set period of time, after which it auto-dismisses. After death or dismissal, you will need to expend another Gyshahl Greens to re-summon your Chocobo.

*Gysahl Greens can be purchased for 36 [[gil]] each from Maisenta <Black Raddit Traders> (X:11,Y:11) in [[New Gridania]], Roarich <Independent Importer> (X:10, Y:9) in [[Ul'dah - Steps of Nald]] and Bango Zango <Brugaire Consortium> (X:9, Y:11) in [[Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks]]. Certain other 'Merchant & Mender' traders in open zones offer them as well, such as the one at (X:21, Y:21) in [[Central Shroud]] at 'Bentbranch Meadows'.

==Customizing Chocobo Companion==
As Chocobos defeat monsters and obtain experience, they rank up and gain skill points (SP).

SP can be spent to grant your Chocobo bonus stats and skills. This is performed by purchasing abilities from one or more of three specializations: the 'Defender', 'Attacker', and 'Healer' trees. These trees correspond to battle stances - when placed into a specific battle stance your Chocobo will favor using abilties from the corresponding tree. Notably when in Healer stance, the Chocobo should not use auto-attacks and instead focus entirely on healing. A "Free Stance" option is available to instruct the Chocobo to use all available abilities whenever it sees fit.

Each level the amount of SP earned by a Chocobo raises by one point (so Chocobos earn 1 SP at level 1, 2 SP at level 2, etc). 
Similarly, the cost of purchasing abilities from a tree rises one point with each rank - Rank 1 abilities cost 1 SP, Rank 2 Abilities cost 2 SP, etc) 
* 10 SP are earned for each level past level 10.

The experience required for the Chocobo to reach the next level rises drastically as its level increases. Players should therefore be aware that it will likely take them a very long time to hit maximum level. The Chocobo will consume a portion from each enemy killed by the player- this does NOT include Fate, Leve or mission experience reward bonuses, but does include "Exp-chains". 

*Once a Chocobo reaches level 10, feeding it a [[Thavnairian Onion]] will raise its level cap by one level.
*The Maximum number of SP a Chocobo can currently earn is 155. Which is not enough SP to take all of the abilities in all trees.
*Purchasing lower rank abilities unlocks higher rank ones in the same tree, so if you want to purchase a Rank 5 ability then you must first purchase Ranks 1 through 4 from that tree.
*"Traits" stack across trees. Selecting a stance will make your Chocobo unable to use weaponskills from other trees, but it will keep all passive stat boosts.
*Since the highest-rank abilities in a tree cost the most SP, a player should consider very carefully if they want to spend all their points in one tree, or invest in abilities from different trees. 

As an example: for 55 SP a player could either choose to take Ranks 1 through 10 in ONE tree, or Ranks 1 through 9 in that tree plus ranks 1 through 4 in a second tree. 

*Players can reset their Chocobo's Skill Points using [[Reagan Pepper]] purchased from your [[Grand Company]] quartermaster for 48,000 [[Company Seals]] or from [[Hunt Billmaster]] for 20 [[Allied Seals]].

Players can specialize their Chocobos to compensate the weaknesses of their [[classes]]. For example, a [[Thaumaturge]] might allocate more SP into the Defender tree to make their Chocobo a better tank. Although it is important to note that Chocobo Companions cannot currently be used in instanced missions, and you cannot summon your Chocobo Companion when queueing for duties without losing your place in the queue. 

The appearance of your Chocobo can also be customized by equipping different Head, Body and Legs pieces in its saddle slots. These costume pieces can be earned in a variety of ways (notably purchased from the Grand Companies) but currently they give no stat boosts and are for aesthetic purposes only.

Favours using abilities from the Defender Tree. 
Prior to patch 2.1 it was unlikely that a "Tanking" Chocobo could hold hate at all, however the enmity generated from Choco Drop and Choco Strike has now been noticeably increased. A Chocobo which has only the "Choco Drop" attack available will use it roughly every 6-8 seconds; and can now hold hate fairly well. If a player wishes for their Chocobo to have the ability to "Tank", it might be wise to only purchase the first three abilities from the Defender tree, and swap it into this stance whenever you need it to generate heavy amounts of enmity.

Companions are pets that will fight alongside you. Players will not only be able to rank up his or her Chocobo companion but also customize their looks and abilities. Players can specialize their personal Chocobos into tanks, healers or damage dealers by allocating their skill points into the Defender, Attacker or Healer skill trees. Players can customize their chocobo with various [[Chocobo Barding|bardings]]. The bardings are only cosmetic, they give no bonus stats or other benefits.

==Obtaining Chocobo Companion==
Chocobo Companions are unlocked after the completion of [[My Feisty Little Chocobo]] quest at level 30 or higher. The quest starting NPC is Docette, located in [[Camp Tranquil]] in [[South Shroud]] (x17,y28).

==Summoning Chocobo Companion==
You will need to use a [[Gysahl Greens]] to summon your Chocobo. When summoned, Chocobo acts as a member of your party and remains summoned for a set period of time, after which it auto-dismisses. After death or dismissal, you will need to expend another Gyshahl Greens to re-summon your Chocobo.

*Gysahl Greens can be purchased for 36 [[gil]] each from Maisenta <Black Raddit Traders> (X:11,Y:11) in [[New Gridania]], Roarich <Independent Importer> (X:10, Y:9) in [[Ul'dah - Steps of Nald]] and Bango Zango <Brugaire Consortium> (X:9, Y:11) in [[Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks]]. Certain other 'Merchant & Mender' traders in open zones offer them as well, such as the one at (X:21, Y:21) in [[Central Shroud]] at 'Bentbranch Meadows'.

==Customizing Chocobo Companion==
As Chocobos defeat monsters and obtain experience, they rank up and gain skill points (SP).

SP can be spent to grant your Chocobo bonus stats and skills. This is performed by purchasing abilities from one or more of three specializations: the 'Defender', 'Attacker', and 'Healer' trees. These trees correspond to battle stances - when placed into a specific battle stance your Chocobo will favor using abilties from the corresponding tree. Notably when in Healer stance, the Chocobo should not use auto-attacks and instead focus entirely on healing. A "Free Stance" option is available to instruct the Chocobo to use all available abilities whenever it sees fit.

Each level the amount of SP earned by a Chocobo raises by one point (so Chocobos earn 1 SP at level 1, 2 SP at level 2, etc). 
Similarly, the cost of purchasing abilities from a tree rises one point with each rank - Rank 1 abilities cost 1 SP, Rank 2 Abilities cost 2 SP, etc) 
* 10 SP are earned for each level past level 10.

The experience required for the Chocobo to reach the next level rises drastically as its level increases. Players should therefore be aware that it will likely take them a very long time to hit maximum level. The Chocobo will consume a portion from each enemy killed by the player- this does NOT include Fate, Leve or mission experience reward bonuses, but does include "Exp-chains". 

*Once a Chocobo reaches level 10, feeding it a [[Thavnairian Onion]] will raise its level cap by one level.
*The Maximum number of SP a Chocobo can currently earn is 155. Which is not enough SP to take all of the abilities in all trees.
*Purchasing lower rank abilities unlocks higher rank ones in the same tree, so if you want to purchase a Rank 5 ability then you must first purchase Ranks 1 through 4 from that tree.
*"Traits" stack across trees. Selecting a stance will make your Chocobo unable to use weaponskills from other trees, but it will keep all passive stat boosts.
*Since the highest-rank abilities in a tree cost the most SP, a player should consider very carefully if they want to spend all their points in one tree, or invest in abilities from different trees. 

As an example: for 55 SP a player could either choose to take Ranks 1 through 10 in ONE tree, or Ranks 1 through 9 in that tree plus ranks 1 through 4 in a second tree. 

*Players can reset their Chocobo's Skill Points using [[Reagan Pepper]] purchased from your [[Grand Company]] quartermaster for 48,000 [[Company Seals]] or from [[Bill Huntmaster]] for 20 [[Allied Seals]].

Players can specialize their Chocobos to compensate the weaknesses of their [[classes]]. For example, a [[Thaumaturge]] might allocate more SP into the Defender tree to make their Chocobo a better tank. Although it is important to note that Chocobo Companions cannot currently be used in instanced missions, and you cannot summon your Chocobo Companion when queueing for duties without losing your place in the queue. 

The appearance of your Chocobo can also be customized by equipping different Head, Body and Legs pieces in its saddle slots. These costume pieces can be earned in a variety of ways (notably purchased from the Grand Companies) but currently they give no stat boosts and are for aesthetic purposes only.

==Upgrading Animus to Novus==
Complete the quests [[Celestial Radiance]] and [[Star Light, Star Bright]]. Players will need to purchase 3 [[Superior Enchanted Ink]] at the cost of 250 Soldiery Tomestones each (750 total) from [[Auriana]]. Players will then give the 3 inks to [[Hubairtin]] in [[Central Thanalan]] (x23,y13) for a [[Sphere Scroll]].

Players will need to ''Infuse'' the Sphere Scroll 75 times to complete the it.

Each infusion requires 2 items: [[Materia]] and [[Alexandrite]]. Players can obtain Alexandrites by completing [[FATEs]] with animus weapons equipped (similar to Atma farming). Players can also obtain alexandrites with [[Mysterious Map]]s. Players can acquire mysterious maps by purchasing them with 400 Soldiery Tomestones each from the [[Auriana]]. Players can also acquire them by completing the quest [[Morbid Motivation]] that asks the player to complete [[Duty Roulette|Expert Duty Roulette]]. Quest resets daily and each completion awards the player with one [[Mysterious Map]].

*Solving Mysterious Map is similar to solving other [[Treasure Hunt|Treasure Maps]]. Players will need the skills [[Decipher]] and [[Dig]].

*When the player fails mysterious map, the map disappears and no alexandrite is awarded.

===Melding Materia===
To infuse and upgrade the weapon's stats, players will use alexandrites as the catalyst to meld materia. Each successful meld infuses the stat of materia into the scroll, granting the it 1 point in the corresponding stat. Higher tier of materia will increase the likelihood of successful infusion. It will not give more than 1 stat point. While the player will likely lose the materia for unsuccessful melds, the player will not lose alexandrite. As the specific stats of the weapon increases, higher materia tier is needed for sucessful melds/upgrades.

*To complete the scroll, players will need 75 successful melds with 75 alexandrites total.

*Players will not need [[crafting]] skills to meld materia.

===Stats===
The weapons' 5 main stats ([[Vitality]], [[Strength]], [[Dexterity]], [[Intelligence]] and [[Mind]]) upgrade automatically.

Players can upgrade additional stats such as [[Piety]], [[Determination]], [[Accuracy]], [[Spell Speed]], [[Skill Speed]], [[Critical Hit Rate]] and [[Parry]] up to a total of 75 points. Accuracy, Spell Speed, Skill Speed, Critical Hit Rate and Parry cap at 44 points each. Piety caps at 33 points and Determination caps at 31 points.

Players can alter their stats after finishing Novus Weapon. For this you need to buy new [[Sphere Scroll]]. After obtaining it player needs to speak to [[Jalzahn]] in [[North Shroud]] (x29,y19) with its Novus Weapon equipped. To do so choose option "Weapon Novus Modification" and NPC will copy all your current Weapon Novus stats to clean scroll and make it full with 75 melds. Then player need to go and speak to [[Hubairtin]] in [[Central Thanalan]] (x23,y13) for materia removal, note that you remove 1 point of chosen stat per action. After this process is the same as before. Proceed with [[Materia]] and [[Alexandrite]] to make your new melds.

==Upgrading Novus to Nexus==
Player needs to speak to [[Jalzahn]] in [[North Shroud]] (x29,y19) with her Novus Weapon equipped. After completing the [[Mmmmmm, Soulglazed Relics]] quest, player can speak to Jalzahn to choose the weapon to [[soulglaze]]. With the soulglazed Novus weapon equipped, player will earn "light" by completing [[dungeons]], [[trials]], [[FATEs]], [[Treasure Hunt]], [[Alexandrite|Alexandrite Maps]], [[The Wolves' Den]] and [[Frontlines]]. After gaining enough "light", the Novus weapon will transform into Nexus weapon.

*You can't get "light" from [[The Hunt]] or [[Guildhests]]??

Different activities give different amounts of "light". "Light" earned will appear in the chat log after completing the activity. Light levels are Feeble Light (least "light"), Gentle Light, Blinding Light, Brilliant Light and Newborn Star (most "light").

*Each type of Light has a secret value that advances your Novus into Nexus. Players will need to reach 2000 "light" points.

==Upgrading Zodiac Braves to Zodiac Zeta==
The upgrade is comprised of 12 Mahatmas of the original Atmas. To upgrade your weapon, you must awaken the Soul of your weapon through a method similar to [[#Upgrading Novus to Nexus|Novus light farming]]. You need 40 points to awaken each Mahatmas. You can obtain points from [[dungeons]] and [[trials]]. Progress can be viewed from the Zodiac Glass. You will also be notified when ascension is complete in the chat log.
